Dear
Esteemed Colleagues:
Happy
New Year! The sound of firecrackers ushering the new year had hardly
died down but federation activities had already started.
AOFOG-SAFOG Consultation Meeting
Every 2
years or so, the executive board members visit 5 member countries of
the federation (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal) who
have formed the SAFOG (South Asia Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology)
to see how their activities are getting along. Despite some political
heat friction, the meeting was held in the cool ambience of
Jaipur,
India
(“the pink city”), coinciding with the annual meeting of FOGSI
(Federation of O & G Societies of India). A bilateral consultation
meeting was held and 2 main issues were discussed:
a.
The
educational thrust was quite evident in each country but in varying
forms and degrees. The idea of traveling fellowships was brought up to
enable exchange of educational experience on the part of the faculty and
postgraduates. Perhaps, with an increasing educational fund, this
project can get off the boards.
b. Two
problems besetting the forthcoming Auckland AOCOG meeting were
presented: visa problems in countries without a
New
Zealand consulate and the perception of unbalanced ratios in speaker
slots. The visa problem was ironed out immediately but the problem of
speaker allotment had to await the organizers’ inputs.
PCOS

Kong

gynecologic disorder. Eminent speakers from the region will put their
minds together in order to come out with a consensus clinical guideline
to guide our region’s practitioners.
EFM /
CTG Consensus Workshop,
Miyazaki, Japan

AOFOG’s Committee on Maternal and Perinatal Welfare (Prof Tsuyomu
Ikenoue, Chair) will try to provide a uniform standard for nomenclature,
